The road quickly turned into a dirt logging road complete with large rocks we needed to clear and amused locals at the sight of a mini, an s4, and gti zipping along. Marcel's all wheel drive s4 handled the rally like course with ease.

Matthew Webb (mtwebb) > I'm a big fan of the use of bamboo scaffolding. It was used everywhere, even on structures as tall as in the above picture. I heard that the architect in charge of the washington memorial restoration designed a wooden scaffold, but he was forced to used aluminum for safety reasons. I'm curious what the rate of failure on bamboo structures is, but it certainly appears to be be fine based on it's wide spread usage.
Matthew Webb (mtwebb) > This is my first attempt at the map. Only element I prefer to the revised version is the better placement of the insertion instructions. This also indicates another possible negative to maps on cards. note that the map on this card does not match the current map. Route line change do happen (but not frequently), and cards would be out of sync. But there are a variety of ways to address this. Add fare kiosks could issue a new car if the map on the card does not match the current version. Also, there is limited amount of space on the front of the card for remaining fare, so obsolescence is built in. Now to just have it implemented.

Matthew Webb (mtwebb) > ....And back to sanding. Part of the fun of making my own paddle was that I could shape it to exactly fit my hand. On the back surface I was able to place small dimples where each of my fingers rest (as it turns out this is encouraging a poor technique). That's all the photos for now, I'll add more one they are finished and the glue arrives to glue on the sheets of rubber.
