Matthew Webb (mtwebb) > Rie and Noby! The wedding provided a too rare opportunity for the three of us to catch up.
Matthew Webb (mtwebb) > The bride and groom to be were surprisingly adept at the pre-wedding party hijinks. Here chris plays an new take on croquet by knocking an egg using a grapefruit suspended in leggings. He first tried a demure side-step technique, but that was quickly dismissed as illegal he to the sanctioned...err...hip thrusting...
Matthew Webb (mtwebb) > Fiya then had to feed the egg up one pant leg and down the other. This photo of course taken at crucial crossing juncture. Fiya's comment when it was done: "The egg is warm!" In the back ground you see much laughing. This would be a theme of the event; both families were warm and friendly. It was great so see so many happy people.
Matthew Webb (mtwebb) > Though I have to admit, weather like this does make it easy to put people in high spirits.
Matthew Webb (mtwebb) > Noby, Rie and I found a nice spot on the beach. Not a cloud in the sky and this palm tree provide the perfect amount of slight shade.
Matthew Webb (mtwebb) > We then went exploring for a place to eat with Rie pointing out old haunts from her high school days here. This building is by Russian architect Vladimir Ossipoff (thanks rie). I was struck by how "sixties" everything felt when I first walked through the airport (which I think he also designed).
Matthew Webb (mtwebb) > We would eat well this weekend. On Saturday night, we ate at Alan Wong's (which Rie smartly booked weeks before we arrived) and sat down to this fantastic 6 course feast. The meal nearly finished off poor rie and noby. Too much of a good thing I suppose.
Matthew Webb (mtwebb) > Then it was up at 5:45 to head down to Hanauma Bay for some snorkeling. For all those asking why I did not have a tan, here's the reason: spf 30 before sunrise. Eat it, Sun!
Matthew Webb (mtwebb) > But it was a rather spectacular sunrise once it did show up. I was expecting this bay to be packed with tourists, but at this hour it was empty. Noby and I were the second into the water. Rie stayed at the hotel to study. I'm sure the 5:45 start time had nothing to do with it...
